Pottery FAQ's

What is a Ceramic Painting studio?
Ceramic painting is all about having fun! We carry a wide range of bisque (unpainted pottery), together with a range of paints and brushes for you to decorate and personalise your own piece of pottery. We will then glaze and fire your piece, ready for you to collect in a few days time!

What can I chose to paint?
We have a large selection of bisque (unpainted pottery) for you to choose from. Ranging from cups, plates and bowls through to money boxes and novelty characters for the children. Plenty to choose from!

How much does it cost?
Depending on the price of the item that you wish to paint (anything from £4 to £40). Plus a studio fee of £3.75 per session.

What is a studio fee?
The studio fee covers you for the use of all paints, brushes, stencils, stamps, glazing and the 12 hours of firing in our kiln. In fact all that you need to complete your project,. One person can paint up to five items, for a single studio fee in one day.

How long does it take?
An average visit to the studio takes 2 hours but you could spend all day with us if you wish. Younger children tend to not take so long to paint their pot.

What if I don't finish my piece in one session?
You can leave it with us and come back and finish it another day.

Do I have to leave the item with you?
For you to use the painted item as dinner-ware, we need to over glaze the pot and then fire it in our kiln. Items are usually ready within 5 days (sometimes longer in busy periods). You will see the difference between a glazed and unglazed pot if you visit Create Inn. It will be well worth the wait!

What if I need the pot urgently?
We offer the use of ceramic acrylic paints but these MUST be for ornamental use only. Using acrylic paints means you can take the item home with you on the same day.

Is it just for children?
Definitley not! Painting ceramics appeals to all ages from 1 to 101.

Do you need to be artistic?
Even people who claim not to be artistic can enjoy painting ceramics. The answer is to choose a bold and simple design - there are lots of examples in the studio together with a vast range of stencils, stamps, sponges and pencils for you to use.

Do you get help?
You can have as much or as little as you require. At Create Inn we are extremely friendly people – none of us are professional artists but we do know what colours we have in stock!! We just enjoy the idea of letting others have a go at painting a pot – it’s about having fun. All we do is show you how.

Do we do parties?
Absolutely! Birthday parties (children & adults), retirement parties, anniversary parties, leaving parties, hen parties, corporate training parties, Christmas parties - you name it and we can help you celebrate!

Are the paints safe and washable?
Yes, all the paints are washable and we use non-toxic paints.

Can the items be used in a dishwasher?
Whilst the glazed piece is dishwasher safe, as with everything, if you treasure it we would recommend that you hand wash only to keep the item looking it’s best.

Do you do commissions?
We can produce simple commission pieces such as a Wedding Anniversary or special Birthday Plates. We use design templates and can add whatever wording or design you like.

Do you do gift vouchers?
£1, £5 and £10. They can be redeemed against either the bisque-ware or the studio fee.

Do you sell drinks and snacks?
Yes. We offer tea, coffee, hot chocolate, soft drinks and a range of luxury biscuits.
